Petara and Fethiye

Instead of going to Kas we headed further west to Petara.  We set up our tent in the back of Medusa Bar which was undergoing reconstruction (it also happened to be right next to a Mosque and had a chicken coop, which meant double early morning wake-up calls!).  We decided we wanted to head to the beach and it took us getting lost through an olive grove and climbing through sand dunes to get there.  On the way back we walked the normal way along the road and passed by ruins back to town.  (Going in to the beach this way cost money, but not out).  We met a fellow camper from the US who was hiking a 300km trail and we all shared dinner together that night and swapped stories.
The next day we headed via dolbus to Fethiye where we stayed at Ideal Hostel.  They didn’t have any dorms, but offered us basically a couch for cheap, but they ended up giving us a private room for the same price, SCORE!  The rest of the day we happily wandered along the boat docks watching the sun set over the harbor.  We looked in a watch shop to replace Vince’s broken battery, but found nothing.  And with a craving for some junkfood we shared a Dominos pizza for dinner before checking out the runs of an ampatheater and getting donderma on the way back to the hotel.

We woke up and prepared ourselves for a full day boat trip to various beaches and valleys.  We got picked up and discovered Lisa, a friend we met a few stops back, was on the same trip!  Probably the best stop was to Butterfly Valley where we got to climb up to a waterfall.  We heard the ‘Call to Prayer’ there as it echoed through the valley and it was quite lovely.  The trip was a bit ridiculous however because while it was very cheap, the boat crew did everything it could to make extra money.  Pictures?  5 TL.  Drink?  5 TL.  French Fries?  5 TL.  ALL TRIP LONG.  We stopped for some crackers, salami, cheese and drinks after returning back and watched the sun go down from the balcony of the hostel.  The next day we were off to Selcuk to visit Ephesus!
